Polarization Dependence of Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering on a Single Dielectric Nanowire

چکیده
Our measurements of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) on Ga2O3 dielectric nanowires (NWs) core/silver composites indicate that the SERS enhancement is highly dependent on the polarization direction of the incident laser light. The polarization dependence of the SERS signal with respect to the direction of a single NW was studied by changing the incident light angle. Further investigations demonstrate that the SERS intensity is not only dependent on the direction and wavelength of the incident light, but also on the species of the SERS active molecule. The largest signals were observed on an NWwhen the incident 514.5 nm light was polarized perpendicular to the length of the NW, while the opposite phenomenon was observed at the wavelength of 785 nm. Our theoretical simulations of the polarization dependence at 514.5 nm and 785 nm are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Polarization dependence of surface-enhanced Raman scattering in gold nanoparticle-nanowire systems.
We study the polarization dependence of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in coupled gold nanoparticle-nanowire systems. The coupling between the continuous nanowire plasmons and the localized nanoparticle plasmons results in significant field enhancements and SERS enhancements comparable to those found in nanoparticle dimer junctions. The SERS intensity is maximal when the incident ligh...
متن کاملSurface-enhanced Raman scattering at a planar dielectric interface beyond critical angle.
Light refraction at the planar boundary of dielectric media prevents light propagation in the higher refractive index medium at angles beyond the critical value. This limitation is lifted when the evanescent wave is excited at the lower refractive index side of the interface. In this work we quantify polarization and angle dependence of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) intensity beyond ...
متن کاملFormation of ordered and disordered dielectric/metal nanowire arrays and their plasmonic behavior
We have recently shown that dielectric/metal composite nanowires can exhibit very strong surface enhanced Raman (SERS) signals, when arranged in a random 3D geometry. Since we believe that the intersections of nanowires are critical in generating the high electric fields necessary for this enhancement, we are investigating this effect under more controlled conditions. Thus, we will discuss the ...

An image field theory of surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy is used to study the dependence of Raman intensities on light frequency, nature of the adsorbate and metal, electrode potential, scattering angle and light polarization. Although the image field enhancement (IFE) theory is at best a crude approximation to the true enhancement mechanism, we do find quite reasonable agreement between th...
